Why you should never "believe the science" - Episode 4 of infinity...
Won't somebody think of the children?
The story of The Tavistock Centre is a perfect illustration of where “believing the science” leads you. It leads you straight to yet another case of where the conspiracy theories simply turned out to be insightful evaluations of evidence and predictors of future direction. It’s remarkable that the whistleblowers haven’t been Clintoned.
This is not a ‘lessons will be learned’ moment of the kind that we are all so tediously used to. This is a “holy fucking shitballs” moment. Someone has decided - for a remarkable change - that complacency will just not pass muster in this case.
We probably aren’t being told the whole truth about what this interim report has found, but the NHS do not immediately commit to shutting down a unique facility unless it is utterly beyond reprieve, and represents an existential challenge to the NHS as a whole.
We know that one of the leaders was forced to resign after a damning internal report in 2019, the whole management team was replaced after a coruscating inspector’s report into the place in 2021. But now the entire stinking edifice has been deemed beyond redemption.
I complain frequently about the complete and total lack of accountability in modern public life and, while I’ve no doubt that everyone mixed up in this will move on to other cushy roles, taking a fat pension with them, at least this evil entity is being done away with.
It just took far too long to happen. How many children have been mutilated chemically, mentally and physically since those original signs that something is rotten in the state of Tavistock? Thousands. That’s how many.
This latest development is not nothing, but it’s not the justice we should be seeing. There should be tens if not hundreds of people, locked in prison cells, waiting for their turn at the gallows for what has been going on at this place over the last decade or more.
It may yet happen, but I won’t hold my breath.
